What's in a website?

That which we look upon,
By any other gaze would look as neat?

Hmmm. That sorta worked.

The husband has convinced me to branch out elsewhere, spread the little wings of VintageEdition, and create a website. It links directly back to Etsy of course, for shopping ease and security. I've used GoDaddy for my Domain at $10/year and free hosting from Wooden Spoon in Santa Rosa, CA (the husband's workplace), which would normally cost $10/month. I bought a Joomla template for a one time fee of $40 and have my husband do all the maintenance.

Feedback is great and appreciated, if you feel like it!

Rome

The husband and I like to go through tv series in a matter of weeks, (depending on the season number of course) and then get very sad when it's all over. Le sigh.

The latest and greatest was Rome; the BBC and HBO production about Julius Cesar and Mark Antony in Ancient Rome. One of my favorite things, besides reminiscing about the good old days in 6th grade of studying and pretending to be Spartans and such, was looking at the fashion! The draping of clothes was marvelous and so flattering for any body type. Asymmetrical shoulder frocks and open sleeves! Layers and layers! The ladies look so lovely.

Resoration Theodore Pt 1

As of last weekend, Theodore has been gutted and cleaned out. We cleared out depris, weeds, mold, and deadbugs (black eight-legged live ones too!). We still have the dash to remove, but after that, it's sanding and painting time.

Inspired by these fellow Etsians, we were thinking a sea green, yellow, chestnut brown, or a deep coral.

Poor Theodore has been sitting in the driveway with a flat tire for the past week. Every once in awhile, we'll give it some air, but the stubborn tire sinks back down in a matter of hours. We tried moving Ted a bit and he wouldn't budge. We had to put him on a baby jack to push him forward to let Gwen, our lovely baby blue 1964 beetle happily whiz by. Husbandy's curiosity got the better of him, so he decided to take a closer look at Tedly's feet. He struggled a bit with the hubcap, using his man muscles to pry it off. Of course, it was hardly a struggle (teehee) and guess what piled out of there faster than you can say, "Was she being sarcastic about his muscles?"

Pincher bugs! Hundreds of them!

Those vile creatures! Luckily they were all dead and I was working, so I didn't see it. Disgusting. Wonder what else will be found? Something more fantastic, I hope!

Going back to the store, I put together a couple of outfits for the Vinter Collection, twaaa:

A House named Dream

Our place of renting is quirky to say the least. Some would say it's shabby, but I prefer shabby chic.

The whole house is shifted; a nice walk North to South in our living room and you lose about 3 inches in height. The windows are drafty. The back deck is desperately trying to become one with the earth. Just layers upon layers of paint have been applied to the walls over the years. But I still love it.

Reasons why I love you, dear sweet house:

A VW Beetle named Theodore

I didn't dare brave the road until I turned the ripe age of 18. I was settled about moving 485.85 miles up the state for college, but to get me behind the wheel of a 1400 pound vehicle was pretty much the same as a death sentence. I liked freedom obviously, but control - no way.

So it goes, I got my license at 18.

18.5 actually. For good precaution, I took my driver's test in a city rumored to be aloof about driving capabilities. If you breathe and know stop from go, you're good. I clumsily managed to get the blinkers going, and as punishment, the windshield wipers followed suite. I was lost from there. Just ignorant I tell ya, just ignorant.

My first transport was a fuel efficient pale silver Japanese girl that I never named. I still feel guilty about that. What if she has been living the rest of her life in a used lot trying to sell herself for nothing? Oh the shame!

I traded unnamed for another faithful and trusty Japanese make, but this one was much older, dark, and mysterious. Besides, her features were amazing! Now all she has to show for is a peeling coat and sluggish attitude. No name either. I attempted to muster one up, but never felt right about it.

Now, there's a man. A burly German man. He prefers Theodore, but he'll answer to Teddy or Ted. Or just plain old Bug. He doesn't really have standards. Born in 1972, he began his journey through life as a somewhat rare commodity with an autostick instead of standard tranny. He lived through the 80's with a T-shirt driver's seat cover and a Jazzercise antennae ball.

Then he just sat. For 10 years. Twiddled his little feet as they slowly sunk into the mud. He wasn't abused or unloved. Just forgotten.

Theodore, the burly German

Now the poor guy looks atrocious. Faded green paint. Dirt and muck in every crevice. He needs the works. He needs it bad. Your eyes are not tricking you, he does have moss growing on his nose. And the whole driver's side too. His shoes are a little rusty and his insides are looking a little sick.

So, I have decided to start a campaign for this little guy. He needs another chance (thanks to a wonderful lady who offered him for free!). All proceeds from my Etsy shop are going towards fixing him up and making him pretty again.

Where to begin?

The beginnings of Vintage Edition:

Once, while I was wandering the streets of Ebay, just window shopping as I normally do; I came across an odd epiphany. Such an epiphany that leaves you in awe and wonderment, something that has always been right in front of you. I, without hobbies or many interests, love vintage clothing. When I was younger, I would pick out these strange pieces from thrift stores that had the beautiful trendies questioning my ability to dress myself. And admittedly, I did too at times.

Whilst Ebay window shopping present day, I began scouring through listings for something to quench my thirst. Something 50's perhaps? No no, something mod and fantastic! This void began to open up and slowly swallow me whole. I began to ponder: What if I cannot fulfill my deep burning desire for something funky retro wonderful? Then, as I was scrolling till the wee hours of the morning, I realized that I have been looking in all the wrong corners amidst feeling trapped in an over abundance of consumer options.

I began a plan. Since I could not fill my burning need to its extent, I could begin a journey of personally scouring thrift stores, estate sales, and old folks homes for wonderful vintage treasures to share with others (at affordable prices).

So I did. And I still do.

That's where it all began.
